Getting Involved

How do I get involved with the Troop?
Troop 121 has lots of great opportunities for parents to be involved in the Troop depending on their availability and interests.   We are excited to have parents volunteer as Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Members, Board of Review members, Merit Badge Counselors, or volunteers for one or more specific activities or Troop functions.  If you'd like more information on volunteer opportunities, you can email committee.chair@scouttroop121.org, attend a committee meeting, or come visit with the Troop on any Monday night.
Do I have to be a Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster/Committee Member?
NO.  All parents are welcome to participate in troop activities without becoming an official BSA volunteer.  Before you can interact with Scouts, you'll need to:
  • Complete Youth Protection Training
  • Complete Background Check
and provide the associated documentation to the Troop Committee Chair or Secretary.
I want to go camping with Troop 121.  What do I need to do?
To interact with Scouts (attend campouts, etc.) you will need to complete Youth Protection Training and your background check.  To participate in an overnight activity, you will need to have part A and B of the BSA Annual Medical form on file with the Troop.  You may be asked to assist with Scout transportation to and from the campout if you have available seats in your vehicle.
Can I sit on a Board of Review?
Yes.  Parents are encouraged to sit on Boards of Review for any Scout who is not their son.  This is a great way to get to know the other Scouts in the Troop as well as other leaders and parents while becoming familiar with what your Scout is and will be learning as he advances in rank.
