Volunteer Resources

Troop 121 Wants You!

Picture
Boy scouts is an organization who's success is founded on the work of committed volunteers.  In order to ensure the safety of both our youth and adult volunteers, BSA requires all adults and registered leaders involved with a Troop to complete the following training and paperwork and for records of its completion to be on file with the Troop.  Below you will find resources for completing:
  • Youth Protection Training
  • Background Check
  • Medical Form
  • Adult Application

Youth Protection Training

Picture
Youth Protection training is required for all BSA registered volunteers.  You do not have to be a registered member or have a member ID to take Youth Protection training, but you MUST complete Youth Protection Training before participating in any troop activities like campouts.

To take Youth Protection training go to MyScouting.org and create an account.
From the MyScouting.org portal, click on E-Learning and take the Youth Protection training.
Upon completion, you may print a certificate of completion to submit with a volunteer application or submit the completion certificate to the unit leader for processing at the local council.

Youth Protection training must be taken every two years. If a volunteer’s Youth Protection training record is not current at the time of recharter, the volunteer will not be reregistered.

Background Check

Picture
BSA requires background checks be completed for all adults interacting with youth in the program.  Texas residents can fulfill this requirement by verifying that they do not appear in the TXDPS Sex Offender Registry and providing a printed copy of the completed background check to the Troop Secretary.

Medical Form

Picture
Troop 121 requires a medical form to be completed for anyone participating in an overnight event.

Parts A and B are to be completed at least annually by participants in all Scouting events. This health history, parental/guardian informed consent and hold harmless/release agreement, and talent release statement is to be completed by the participant and parents/guardians.

Part C is the physical exam that is required for participants in any event that exceeds 72 consecutive hours, for all high-adventure base participants, or when the nature of the activity is strenuous and demanding.  Part C is to be completed and signed by a certified and licensed heath-care provider—physician (MD or DO), nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

Adult Application

Picture
All volunteers who will be filling an official position within the troop (Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster/Committee Member) will need to complete a BSA Adult Application and return the completed forms to the Committee Chair.  As part of the application process, BSA conducts a background check on all volunteers.
