Troop Leadership Positions

Troop 121 offers many opportunities for youth leadership.  All terms of office are 6 month terms, running from March 1 to August 31, and September 1 to February 28 (29).  The chart below illustrates how our Troop is organized.  More information on leadership positions can be seen below.

Senior Patrol Leader

The Senior Patrol Leader is the youth head of the troop. All other youth positions report to him, directly or indirectly. He is elected by the troop's youth members as a whole, usually to serve a 6- or 12-month term.  SPL candidates must have attained the rank of First Class Scout and successfully completed National Youth Leadership Training.

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader

The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader is the second highest-ranking youth leader in the troop. He is appointed by the senior patrol leader with the approval of the Scoutmaster. The assistant senior patrol leader acts as the senior patrol leader in the absence of the senior patrol leader or when called upon. He also provides leadership to other youth leaders in the troop.

Junior Assistant Scoutmaster

The Junior Assistant Scoutmaster functions as an Assistant Scoutmaster (except for leadership responsibilities reserved for adults 18 and 21 years of age or older) and accomplishes any duties assigned by the Scoutmaster.

Troop Guide

A Troop Guide introduce new Scouts to troop operations, guides new Scouts through early Scouting activities and helps new Scouts earn the First Class rank in their first year.  He coaches the Patrol Leader of the TFC patrol on his duties, and assists the Assistant Scoutmaster with training.  He coaches individual Scouts on scouting challenges and teaches basic Scout skills.

Den Chief

Picture
A Den Chief meets regularly with the Den Leader to review the den and pack meeting plans.  He serves as the activities assistant at den meetings and if serving as a Webelos Den Chief, he helps prepare boys to join Boy Scouting.

Patrol Leader

The Patrol Leader is elected to lead and represent his patrol on the Patrol Leaders' Council.  He appoints an Assistant Patrol Leader, plans and leads patrol meetings and activities, keeps patrol members informed, and prepares his patrol to participate in all troop activities.

Assistant Patrol Leader

The Assistant Patrol Leader is appointed by the patrol leader and helps the Patrol Leader plan and lead patrol meetings and activities.  He leads the patrol in the absence of the Patrol Leader.

Troop Webmaster

Picture
The Troop webmaster improves communication in the Troop.  He maintains a usable information site for use by scouts, parents, and interested boys containing a calendar, permission forms, news, and other information.  He will publish documents, forms, and information as requested by troop leaders and keep troop information up to date and published in a timely manner.

Scribe

Picture
The Scribe keeps the troop records. He records the activities of the patrol leaders' council and keeps a record of dues, advancement, and Scout attendance at troop meetings. He attends the patrol leaders' council but generally is not a voting member.

Quartermaster

Picture
The Quartermaster keeps track of troop  or team  equipment and sees that it is in good working order. He keeps records on patrol/troop or squad/team equipment, makes sure equipment is in good working condition, and issues equipment and makes sure it is returned in good condition.
